Webpage Guide

Your WEBPAGE is divided into several sections with coins grouped generally according to time or place of origin. By HOVERING the cursor over a picture, an identification caption will appear. By CLICKING ON a picture, the enlarged picture can be seen and successive large pictures can be accessed by clicking on the arrows to the left or right.

The COIN CODES in the captions are unique to each coin (as a lot in an auction). These consist of two letters, plus three digits, e.g., GR001, RE023.

The PHOTOS vary in quality depending on the source of purchase, including major auction houses, various online websites or various sellers at shops or met on travels. I have used a non-professional camera to photograph coins bought in person. Those photos may be substandard.

The PURCHASE SOURCES of each coin: Where I have purchased coins from established auction houses or numismatic groups like VCoins, I have indicated the source by two or more letters (and the specific auction code if available). The list of abbreviations for seller is attached, accessible by clicking on “Codes for Auction Houses and Dealers” below.

COINS PURCHASED ON EBay or from a KNOWN PRIVATE DEALER are so indicated. If an established auction house or dealer sold me the coin on EBay or VCoins, the auction house code or dealer’s name follows the hyphen attached to EBay or VC. So, EBay-NN refers to coins bought on EBay from Numismatik Naumann. VC-Dorney refers to a coins sold by a dealer named Dorney through VCoins.

COINS PURCHASED AT FAIRS, FROM PRIVATE DEALERS OR AT ANONYMOUS SHOPS WHILE TRAVELING IN THE US AND ABROAD are indicated by “CSU,” coin seller unknown. I do not have sufficient expertise to judge the authenticity of these coins, so I rely upon the auction house’s expertise to determine that.

The six-digit number that follows the seller’s code represents the DATE of sale. The first two digits represent the 2000 year, such as 16- for 2016. The next two digits represent the month and the last two, the day.  So, 170921 is 21 September 2017. Where I do not know for certain the date of sale, I use the abbreviation PDU (purchase date unknown).

All COINS FROM AUCTIONS will include the lot number (Lxxx). So, Coin RE999 Hadrian, Rome 124-134 BN23 120306 L444 was purchased from Bertolami Fine Arts, Auction #23, Lot 444 on 6 March 2012.

In nearly every case that I have won coins in an auction, I have the TAG/TAGS that came with it. I will send these tags in the coin flips or otherwise attached to the individual coins chosen for consignment.

Of course, if there is confusion about the information on an individual coin or a need to provide more data, please contact me at chukol@yahoo.com or call me at 609-5101343.Always use the coin code (e.g., RE999) in referencing a coin.
